And yet among those would-be auteurs, there are frequently indications of a passion for what they’re doing, a genuine commitment that outstrips their abilities, resulting in work which never had a chance to compete with the industrial polish of even the lowliest studio-produced B-movie. This is where a confluence of factors so often produces strange, even inexplicable results which baffle viewers who respond with mockery and feelings of superiority.
